I was pleased to find that the CLIL Workshop held at the University of Calabria stimulated some reflections, even in Bolzano. I believe it was one of the first events whereby the topic of CLIL was addressed by non-language faculties. In fact, the Faculties of Science (SMFN) and Engineering at UNICAL showed a good dose of foresight (lungimiranza ??) when they accepted the invitation of the National Teachers' Association (AND) to discuss why FLs are important for science-and- technology and, in turn, what subject specialists can do to “help school teachers CLIL”. Such vertical integration of competence is one of the primary issues that emerged from the Symposium of the AILA CLIL-Research Network held last September in Vienna. See report at:
http://www.ichm.org/clil/symposium07.htm

Symbiosis between the subject and language components of both Universities and schools will undoubtedly contribute to the successful metamorphosis of CLIL, from a loosely organised grass-roots initiative to a coherent "educational method". This will not only contribute to attaining the goal of L1+2(FL) that the European Community has set for its citizens, but also prompts us to re-examine and optimize how FL AND scientific subjects are approached in schools: The good fruit of successful CLIL (subject + language) will be enjoyed by all, students and staff, at the University. Happy CLIL-ing!

Mi sembra che questa mancanza nell'offerta formativa del nostro ateneo sia estremamente significativa. La scelta è consona alla visione che la svp ha del problema linguistico qui in provincia ed illuminante sull'indipendenza didattica dell'ateneo.
